Beginning  April 8, all eyes will be on Austin and the LBJ Presidential Library as it hosts the three-day Civil Rights Summit. This premier event marks the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This Act, along with the 1965 Voting Rights Act and the 1968 Fair Housing Act, played a critical role creating equality among all Americans.

This unprecedented event will include remarks from President Barack Obama, along with former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. In order to share this experience with the world, more than 250 journalists from around the country are expected to attend. All eyes will truly be on us!

This is when a job in public relations can really get exciting. For the past few weeks, Elizabeth Christian Public Relations (ECPR) has had the privilege of working with a team from the LBJ Presidential Library, The University of Texas at Austin, the White House and others to bring this event to the public.

Our job is to ensure media outlets — from near and far — have access to panelists from ambassadors and civil rights activists to sports hall-of-famers who will be discussing today’s civil rights issues. These issues affect us all, and we want to make sure the voices of these experts reach the masses.

Keep an eye out for the wide range of stories coming out of the Civil Rights Summit. ECPR is proud to have a fingerprint on each one.
