Two ECPR staffers recently accompanied executives from the JW Marriott Austin and the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau on a trip to New York City to visit with reporters about the spectacular new hotel slated to open on Congress Ave (between 2nd and 3rd Streets) next February. We met with Travel+Leisure, Food & Wine, Conde Nast Traveler and several other publications. Without exception, every reporter and editor was very interested in hearing the latest news about Austin—clearly a very hot travel and food market—and were also quite intrigued to hear about this new hotel that will so greatly expand our city’s ability to host large groups and leisure travelers.
When it opens, the JW Marriott Austin will be the largest JW Marriott in the Americas and the second largest in the world. Just a few short years ago, it would have been very hard to imagine a developer placing that much confidence in the economic potential of our city.
The JW Austin will be a place where locals will want to gather as well. With two full-service restaurants, including a high-end Italian restaurant and an Austin-inspired regional restaurant with Texas wines and spirits, Austinites will enjoy exploring these new places to have a special meal. For downtown workers and visitors, there will also be a Burger Bar on Congress Avenue with a walk-up window and plenty of outdoor seating—an experience reminiscent of visiting a food trailer for breakfast tacos or a great burger.
We are proud to work on such an exciting project—a hotel that will draw visitors from every corner of the world and one that Austinites will want to enjoy as well.
