Last week, I helped share some really exciting news that you may have seen: Google is testing its self-driving vehicles in Austin.
At ECPR, we are tasked to share client news daily, some of which is poised to gain national attention, and this was no different.
This announcement, in particular, was “newsy” in that it was the first time the tech-giant had announced its self-driving vehicles would be testing anywhere outside of its hometown, Mountain View, CA. That means you may see one of the cars around Austin.
For any client announcement, I recommend that you do the following before sharing news with the media:
- Be targeted in your outreach – be sure you are connecting with the right reporter for your announcement. For reporters you frequently contact, try not to inundate them with news best suited to someone else just because you work with them a lot.
- Be cohesive in your message – when sharing a client’s message, the last thing you want to do is convolute the story, so be sure to know the important facts before connecting with a reporter.
- Be uniform in execution – when working on a team to distribute news in a timely manner, it’s important to have a plan in place before distribution of news to media outlets.
