John Mathew (JMAT) Bernal is the new director of digital Media for ECPR Texas. Bernal’s expertise includes creative multi-channel marketing, brand strategy, event planning, media buying, sales marketing, partnership building and matcha drinking.

Prior to joining ECPR Texas, Bernal worked at The Texas Tribune, where he successfully built digital partnerships with national, state and local organizations. Partners included Texans for the Right to Read, League of Women Voters Texas, Bank of America, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Anheuser-Busch, the City of Austin Parks and Recreation, and more. Prior to his work at The Tribune, Bernal was part of the marketing team at DoStuff Media, SXSW and Brown Distributing Co.

Born and raised in Austin, Bernal earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology with a double minor in mass communication and music at Texas State University. He currently runs an arts nonprofit, Chula League, whose mission is to fuel and sustain the arts in East Austin.
