Last week (May 12-16) was National Small Business Week. In today’s ultra-connected society, it’s almost hard to believe that nearly 50 percent of small businesses in Texas do not have a website or any online presence. When you consider that 97 percent of online users go to the Internet to find local products and services, it’s clear that these small businesses are missing some significant opportunities.
We are proud to represent Google in Texas. One of the Google initiatives that we help publicize is the Texas Get Your Business Online program, which includes a range of free and easy ways for businesses to get online.
The tools include instructions for building a website and a Google+ page, adding a business name to Google maps, and creating a customized domain name. Google will even register the domain name and host the website free for a year.
Google has events for small businesses throughout the state (most recently in Houston and Corpus Christi) that provide hands-on assistance with these tools. But if businesses can’t make it to the events, they can also use the do-it-yourself approach and follow some easy directions here to take advantage of these great services.
