Making the Most of Two Events in One Day

One of the challenges of working in PR is juggling multiple projects at once. This can be even more of a challenge when you have a client with two events on the same day.

Last week, ECPR helped Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare in El Paso, which includes Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center, coordinate media for dedication ceremonies at each hospital.

On April 6 at 11 a.m., Del Sol Medical Center honored organ donors with a dedication of the hospital’s “Wall of Heroes.” Later that day at 6 p.m., Las Palmas Medical Center, the only hospital in El Paso with a kidney transplant center, dedicated its “Tree of Life” mural to kidney donors.

Getting media to attend two similar events on the same day can be tricky. It requires careful planning and thinking like a journalist.

Plan

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare made sure that these events did not overlap, which worked in our favor, as media who could not attend the morning event attended the evening event (and vice versa).

Think like a journalist

We also made sure that each event was offering a different story, so we could work to garner coverage of both events. At Del Sol, we had the family of an organ donor with an inspiring story available for interviews.

At Las Palmas, we had donors and transplant recipients who offered a different perspective on organ donation. Las Palmas Medical Center is the only hospital in El Paso with a kidney transplant center, which allowed hospital representatives to speak about the transplant process.

In the end, we were able to entice media to attend each event, resulting in excellent media coverage for both hospitals.
